Ok, so some of these pictures are out of order and I am not tech savvy enough to know why. Travis is sleeping, or else I would have him fix it. Anyway....
This is Travis running the Walt Disney World 1/2 Marathon last Saturday. This picture was right after mile 4.
Can you see Travis and his sister Sarah? Yep, that's right, Sarah is ahead of him in the pink long sleeve shirt. The girl waving to me.
I had to keep texting Travis to make sure I would be at the right spots along the route. Supporting the runners of a race is nearly as exhausting as running it yourself!
I was happy to see they made it to mile 8 and through the Magic Kingdom!
This is the finish line. I was misbehaving so they put me with the others behind a chain link fence. If you look closely you'll see Travis, well, half of Travis as he's running the last 50 feet!
Side note: As I was waiting for them to cross the finish line, I watched the other people cross. Being pregnant and not having any sleep the night before made me pretty emotional, at least I like to blame it on that anyway. Every time I saw someone really excited or a couple holding hands, and especially when the war veteran who lost his legs in Afghanistan crossed the finish line on his prosthetics, I bawled. Having been on the other side of the chain link fence I know what it is like to look up and see the finish line after 26.2 or 13.1 miles and feel the pride at actually making it.
I'm proud of Travis and Sarah for finishing :)
Travis and I were called on our way down to Florida and asked to pick up and bring back a toy maltese puppy for a friend's mom. I had no clue what kind of a hit the puppy was going to be at Sarah's birthday party! She's tiny!
This was a party to celebrate 3 birthday's, Sarah's included. Travis and Sarah hung the lights, but Susan and I made most of those snowflakes!
The cohorts.
Travis and his mama. In case you couldn't see the resemblance.
Yes, all three got their own cake. Susan made an old fashioned chocolate cake, a german chocolate cake and another cake but since it wasn't chocolate I didn't bother remembering what kind. They were delicious!
Happy Birthday!
These two worked with Sarah and both ran the 1/2 marathon as well. The one on the right ran it with her husband who is in the Marine Corps. It was fun to talk to her and realize how much we can relate. And it made me selfishly grateful that Travis isn't in the Marine Corps any more. Kudos to Ashley, strong woman she is!
As much as Travis plays the tough Marine, he is a softie at heart. He had this little puppy in his arms any chance he got. Including at 2 am when we needed to catch our flight at 8 am. Apparently I was a meanie for not letting the puppy play on the bed between us and he had to console her.
Presents!
So, um, speaking of out of order, this picture should be up by the mile 8 picture. This is what I do when my husband is running 13.1 miles. And yes, I did send him this picture so he would know I was at the Polynesian waiting for him to run by, not to make him jealous ;)
I don't know how you fit it all in, in such a short time.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the race and I LOVE the decorations for the party! Looks fun!
ReplyDeleteI agree that supporting/ photographing racers can be exhausting; I had to do some serious speed-walking to catch Kurt when he crossed the finish line in Richmond! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks again for coming! It meant a lot to me that yall were there to support me in the half marathon and for my birthday party. That weekend is forever etched in my memory under best birthdays ever. Love the pictures!!
