Memorial Day

I'm very grateful to those who have sacrificed everything for our freedom and also for those who keep serving bravely to protect us.

I decided to decorate for Memorial Day and keep it up through the summer for 4th of July. I have frames to add more pictures of family members in uniform, so if you have pictures of anyone in our family, please send one my way!

Hope you all have a great weekend (I know I will, I got time off and a brother in town!!!) and take the chance to remember the reason for the day.

LCC

This week started a little difficult. Word came that Trav's TA was ending in 7 days. My car broke down on Tuesday and I had tough interviews on Thursday. Stress!

After feeling the tension, we decided to just buckle down and do what we could. Travis fixed the car and I prepared for my interviews.

It paid off!

I got the official word today that I made it into the LCC (Travis is already in it). Exciting day! Now, if there are opportunities in leadership I can be considered for them. That's a big step for me, so I hope someone wants me!

Also, Travis got another Temporary Assignment at Fort Wilderness Front Desk. We're hoping someone realizes how wonderful he is and snags him up for a permanent position. My husband is awesome, fyi.

We are a blessed couple.

Mama Rae

I'v been thinking for awhile about what I could do for my wonderful mom on Mother's Day this year. She has been awesome in supporting both me and Travis this last year. I kept running into a problem though- What in the world can I get a mom who doesn't need anything I can afford to buy? She has a ring for each hand and a beautiful necklace so that ruled out buying nice jewelry.

I was going to get flowers, then I learned my brother sent her flowers AND incorporated a scripture. How could I compete with that? I couldn't. Back to square one. I thought about a nice wall hanging, but I've already done that.

I'm no poet but I even tried my hand at a poem. I couldn't make it past:

"Mother Dearest,
you are the one that I fearest,
the most."

While some mom's would love to know their kids fear them, I didn't think it was the flowery poem she would want on Mother's Day. When the poetry didn't work I figured it might just need sweet music to it, so I laid down a beat and got my dancing on. Travis said I should never do that in public again. I told him we weren't in public, we were in the car, but he assured me it was public enough to make it humiliating to have his wife "rapping." Another fail.

I'll be honest, my next thought was, "We could give her a grandbaby!" Travis thought that was going a little too far with a Mother's Day gift so he put a big, fat NO stamp on that idea. (maybe next year mom!)

Hmmmmm.... I talked to Travis, people at work and some friends to get ideas. Told them how sweet and fun my mama is and stories about growing up with her. Like how she would let me stay up past my bedtime if I would brush her hair. And how the first time she let me cook by myself it was a batch of muffins. I followed the recipe but didn't realize the difference between a Tbsp of baking soda (or powder- can't remember) and a tsp of it. I ended up with a huge overflowing pan of goop and a mom that was patient enough to show me how to do it again. I love cooking.

They also heard about everything she did to help me with the wedding. Seriously she about did it all (with her sisters too!). On top of that she took a week out of her Christmas break to visit me in Florida so we could have some mother/daughter pre-wedding moments I was really missing before. Then she was there in the Bride's Room with me calming my anxiety over my dress, make-up, hair I might have messed during the ceremony, veil, price of hot cocoa in Haiti, etc. She really is amazing.

Now what can I possibly do for my mom on Mother's Day? The best idea I could come up with was share her awesomeness with all of you.

Happy Mother's Day Mom! I love you!
