Volle Household Happenings-December Edition

Greetings blog readers!
We interrupt your regularly scheduled Baby Hudson program to bring you the following info break.
There have been many goings on in the Volle household the past few months and I figured I'd catch ya'll up to speed.
First off, Church callings. Lindsea and I have had them, but there's been some changes. Lindsea has left the Nursery babies behind, and is now a teacher for the Young Women. This is a good calling for my wife to be in because it gives her another outlet for her love of all things Pinterest. Pinterest was made for my wife. It's just as addicting to her as Skyrim is to me, only more productive. I'm pretty sure she's working on a way to have a lesson where the girls make table runners based on the YW Values colors. She is a wonderful example of the Young Women Values and I'm excited for her for the things she'll both be able to learn and teach to the Young Women of our ward. Plus, I'm excited for Lindsea to be with the other mothers in our ward. It's a bit out of her comfort zone, but one thing I know about my dear wife is that is when she really shines. (Insert Grampa Dale's comment here ;) )
Speaking of comfort zones, I've been called to be the Sunbeams teacher, which is strangely hilarious to some. I have a feeling that since my class is pretty much all boys, and I happen to be of the male flavor of humanity, the Primary Presidency is hoping that I'll be able to instill or intimidate (in a nice, gentle, loving way of course) some sense of reverence and decorum. However, my wife has expressly forbade any of my carefully crafted and tuned "wooden performance enhancers" from leaving the house. So the best I can do is to throw pummel them with bags of gummies and try to convince them that chairs are for sitting in whilst at church, not for pretending to be Spiderman. I don't go in with an actual lesson plan, so much as a determination to try to keep the conversations 1 way. I.e., me talking and them not. Best lesson so far: A conversation in which we discussed that while Batman is pretend, Jesus is not. And yes, Jesus is still "cool" even if he doesn't do magic. The most humorous part for me is the fact that I've not been in Primary in any capacity since I left it about 20 some odd years ago. I knew about 3 Primary songs but thanks to my nephew Ryker, I now remember 4. I'd totally forgotten that the wise man built his house on the train tracks so that the dinosaurs would be able to serve him macaroni and cheese.
In other news, I will be starting an online Masters through the University of Illinois this coming January. It will be through their Recreation, Sports and Tourism program. I'll be starting out as a non-degree seeking student for the first couple of classes, as my GPA was not quite up to snuff at the end of my bachelor degree days. The good news is that I'll still have the tuition paid for but will have to pay for the class fees out of pocket. That amounts to about $200 per class, and classes are about 2 months long. I'm excited to be back in school. Hopefully, this will enable me to get a better paying job so that I can afford some of the more elaborate Pinterest ideas that my crafty wife has in mind. Unfortunately, we will have to move to IL around the end of the summer, as living in the state is a requirement for my financial aid. So for those of you who've been meaning to plan a Froyo date with us, or have a quilt square swapping party ( I'm not sure what that is, but I imagine it's a bit like a poker night for the guys) or challenge Lindsea to a bake off (you poor fools!); time's a'tickin!
And now to the really, really important news. Our little man now has teeth! Which sadly means that he will not be chewing on fingers for much longer. But there's a silver lining to every cloud; this also means that he'll be able to start enjoying such culinary delights as puréed pumpkin and strained tomatoes. Yummy!
Well, that about concludes this edition of Volle info. Tune in next time as we chronicle more exciting changes that are undoubtably coming our way!

  1. While a Hudsonless post is pointless I can only have no reply to Lindsea's "comfort zone". Nobody said velcro on the wall for Sunbeams was out of line.

  2. I am thrilled to bits that Lindsea accepted the calling in YW - she brings a shot of energy (along with more passion for pinterest, haha) to our group. The girls love learning from someone closer to their stage of life...
I am sure you will have the Sunbeams in line and reporting for duty every Sunday! :)
